On Sunday, June 11th, nearly 200 paddlers unleashed their inner dragon and took to the waters at our Annual Dragon Boat Challenge. All the elements were in place for another exciting and festive Dragon Boat Challenge … enthusiastic competitors … sunny skies … ideal racing conditions … lively animation by CTV Montreal and a touching tribute to missing children.
We were treated to a thrilling and nail biting finale! Less than 2.8 seconds separated the top three teams teams with KPH Turcot taking top honours with a record time of 49.30, narrowly edging out One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (49.97) and BRONX finishing 3rd (52.10).
We would also like to acknowledge the outstanding fundraising efforts of all our teams who worked tirelessly for weeks, raising funds for our programs. For the fifth consecutive year, the top fundraising champion was the team from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish who raised unprecedented $25,005! Their team captain, a long-time volunteer of the Network, Andria Mallozzi was also crowned top fundraiser, as she raised a record $9,820. Thanks to the Air Canada Foundation, Marie-Paul Sardi (team Boomerang) will be packing her bags and enjoying a trip for two to any North American destination.
We are grateful to all our corporate and community partners whose generosity and legendary support contributed to the success of this important event and helped raise over $66,000 for our critical Family Assistance and Support Programs. Kudos are extended to the following partners: Air Canada Foundation, CTV Montreal, Power Corp, ESKA, Trophées Pointe Claire, Traiteur G Catering, Sweet Savours by Felicia, Facepainting Montreal and Via Rail Canada.
Finally, no fundraising event would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our outstanding team of volunteers, as well as the entire crew from 22Dragons. Their professionalism and enthusiastic encouragement helped ensure that the day ran smoothly from beginning to end.
To each and every one of you that supported our efforts in whatever capacity, we thank you 66,000 times for helping us keep hope alive for missing children and their families!
Have a safe and sunny summer! See you next year!
